How To Plunge
What are the benefits of using a cold plunge?
-
The five key benefits of using an ice bath are:
-
1. Reduced Muscle Soreness: Ice baths can help alleviate muscle soreness and inflammation by constricting blood vessels and reducing blood flow to the muscles. This may aid in faster recovery after intense physical exercise.
-
2. Faster Recovery: Cold water immersion may help expedite the recovery process by reducing muscle damage and inflammation. Athletes often use ice baths to recover more quickly between training sessions or competitions.
-
3. Pain Relief: Ice baths can provide temporary pain relief for various conditions, such as arthritis, injuries, or chronic pain, by numbing the affected area and reducing inflammation.
-
4. Improved Circulation: Alternating between cold and warm water during a contrast bath (cold-hot-cold) can stimulate blood circulation. This may help with overall cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of conditions like varicose veins.
-
5. Enhanced Immune Function: Regular exposure to cold temperatures may stimulate the production of white blood cells and boost the immune system’s overall function. This can potentially make the body more resilient to illness.
-
It’s important to note that while ice baths can offer these benefits, they should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional or trained therapist, as they can be intense and have potential risks, especially if not done correctly or if you have certain medical conditions.Individual responses to ice baths can also vary, so it’s essential to listen to your body and adjust the duration and temperature accordingly.
How should I prepare for a cold plunge?
-
-
Use the Quick Start Guide in our brochure.
-
1. Unpack and place the MiHIGH Cold Plunge on a flat and stable surface.
-
2. Inflate both the double-wall tub and the lid using the included air pump. To inflate, unscrew cap and insert and secure pump to valve. Pump until the tub and lid are fully inflated. Screw cap back on. Don’t go over 8 PSI.
-
3. Wash the double-wall tub and lid with warm soapy water, then rinse and wipe down with a clean, dry cloth. Never clean your MiHIGH Cold Plunge with bleach-based detergents as this may degrade the materials.
-
4. If you are using the MiHIGH Water Chiller (sold separately) with the MiHIGH Cold Plunge, place the MiHIGH Water Chiller on a flat and stable surface at least 1 meter from the MiHIGH Cold Plunge.
-
5. IMPORTANT: Connect a tube from the ‘Water In’ valve on the MiHIGH Water Chiller to the ‘Water In’ valve on the MiHIGH Cold Plunge. Similarly, connect a tube from the ‘Water Out’ valve on the MiHIGH Water Chiller to the ‘Water Out’ valve on the MiHIGH Cold Plunge. Make sure the valves are hand tight. Failure to connect the tubes correctly could result in damage to the MiHIGH Water Chiller.
-
6. You can now fill your MiHIGH Cold Plunge with cold water using a hose until the water is roughly 6 inches (15 cm) below the underside of the top ring of the tub (not more than ⅔ full).
-
7. Plug in and switch on the MiHIGH Water Chiller. Use the Setting key and Up and Down keys to set the temperature of the water. The MiHIGH Water Chiller will self-prime until it's ready to use. Remember: Never leave the MiHIGH Water Chiller switched on when using the MiHIGH Cold Plunge. Make sure the unit is switched off during your cold water therapy session.
-
8. To empty your MiHIGH Cold Plunge, remove the 'Water Out' plug/tube from the MiHIGH Cold Plunge. Make sure to secure the plug/tube before use again.
-
9. To deflate the tub, take off the valve cap and press the valve down.
-
How long should I plunge for?
-
-
-
Cold water therapy works best with the right combination of time and temperature. For example, if you are in water with a temperature of 50°F (10° C), we recommend you stay for no more than 10 minutes.
-
Temperature to Time examples:
-
41°F / 5° C = 5 minutes submersion
50°F / 10° C = 10 minutes submersion
59°F / 15°C = 15 minutes submersion
